Dry Pipe Sprinkler Systems: Water is available in the installation up to the valves used in dry pipe systems. There is compressed air or nitrogen gas on the line from dry alarm valve to sprinkler heads to keep the valve closed. The sprinkler is opened by the heat effect caused by fire. The pressure in front of the valve decreases. The dry alarm valve opens. Thus, the pipes are filled with water and water is discharged from the open spriklers to the fire scene. Dry pipe sprinkler systems can be used in low temperature spaces where wet pipe systems can not be used. However, the area of the alarm valve at the inlet of the dry piping system must be above 4°C. In wet pipe system, water is ready for installation. However, in systems with dry alarm valves, air or nitrogen and water are expected to be replaced. An accelerator should be used on the valve to accelerate the water access to the sprinklers. In dry alarm valve, the control area is determined by calculating the internal volume of the pipe.
